General Rules:

All participants will comply with every rule listed below.

At any time a Participant can be removed from all activities at Organizers discretion.
A driver's license and membership card with proper designations must be on your person at all times when at any S.B. work site.
No alcohol, firearms, or illegal substances are allowed at any Bonfire site. This includes Burn.
No horseplay.
If participant's action(s) are deemed unsafe by the Organizer(s), he/she will be removed from all activities immediately, even if said Participant has not broken a specific rule.
Every Participant is required to wear head protection (either pot/helmet liner or hard-hat) at all times except in Loading Area designated by Organizers.
Every Participant is required to wear leather work-boots for foot protection (steel-toe boots are highly recommended). Tennis shoes are prohibited.
Every Participant is required to wear full length pants (jeans are highly recommended). Shorts are prohibited.
If there is any question as to any rule or failure to address a situation in these guidelines, Organizers will have final determination and ruling.

Rules for Participants:

Any Participant who wishes to volunteer in any way at Cut Site must first satisfactorily complete a Cut Safety Course required by Organizers.
Participants will be put into groups designated by Organizers. Leaders of said groups will be designated by Organizers.
No running is allowed at cut site.
When handling an axe, participant should not wear a glove on the base hand.
Eye protection is recommended but not mandatory while felling a tree.
Work areas will be assigned by Organizers ONLY, in a manner such that trees cannot fall into adjacent occupied work areas.
Participants are to keep all personal belongings, trees, and other debris free from obstructing travel along "tractor paths" designated by Organizers.
Before felling is started, the participant shall plan and clear a retreat path.
An undercut and back-cut shall be made in each tree being felled so that the hinge is able to guide the tree's fall in the intended direction. Leaders will mark all cuts before cutting begins.
After a tree is on the ground, "limbing" and "topping" of tree will occur by individuals designated by leader in the given work area. "Limbing" is the act of removing the limbs from a tree to produce a useable log. "Topping" is the act of removing the upper portion of the tree once it is on the ground to produce a useable log.
Movement of logs will be directed by individuals whom are designated by the leader in said work area.
When moving a log, a path should be determined to safely move the log to a skidding area designated by Organizers.
Only those Participants with proper certification (designated on membership card) as a chainsaw operator may operate a chainsaw and only with the approval of the Organizers.
Only those participants with proper certification (designated on membership card) as a machine operator may start or operate machinery, and only with the approval of the Organizers.
Only those participants with proper certification by the Texas Department of Public Safety are authorized to transport materials or equipment for Student Bonfire.

Disciplinary action for breaking any of the above regulations will be determined by the Organizers. Such action includes, but is not limited to, the removing of Participant for a specified time, the entire day, or permanently from all Student Bonfire activities.

In general, we ask that all participants always be aware of your surroundings. The future of Bonfire depends on each Participant. Please do your part to help make Student Bonfire as safe as possible.
